The Community Association
for the Development of Montecristo Island, in Tecoluca, San Vicente, will hold
the second cashew festival next Sunday, showcasing a product that is emblematic
of the municipality and is cultivated by locals in a part of the island
spanning over 80 acres, as well as in other areas of the Bajo Lempa region.
There will be more than 20
products derived from the fruit and seed of the cashew, in addition to tourist
tours. Giovanni DÃaz, a representative of the association, stated that the
activities on the island will begin at 9 in the morning, and tourists must
arrive at the La Pita ecotourism area and board a boat that will take them to
the location.
The round-trip cost is $2
per person, and during the journey over the waters of the Lempa River mouth,
visitors can admire landscapes such as the Chichontepec volcano, a variety of
birds, and the mangroves, added DÃaz.
This year, they will hold a cashew eating contest and the election and coronation of the festival queen, with the participation of young ladies from different islands and the Bajo Lempa region.
